Ravenna

Ravenna

Ravenna is a surprising city, with a provincial, shy and sleepy appearance; isolated and far from the main traffic and commercial routes, compensated by a discreet but very active harbour. It is surrounded by a beautiful and orderly countryside connected to beaches and pine forests, sung by Dante and Boccaccio. This green lung, largely accessible by bike, is protected from the sea by the important ecosystem of the dunes, which are increasingly at the center of environmental and landscape enhancement projects. The natural aspect is then completed by the wonderful and evocative environment of the valleys that can be explored, alternatively to the nightlife of the nearby beaches, by canoe, boat, bike, or on foot, perhaps with binoculars to spot the many bird species that nest in this protected area of the Delta Park. The historic center, despite its humble and timid first impression, is a true treasure of artwork, churches, basilicas, and buildings unique in the world, characterised by the dazzling splendor of their interiors, embroidered with light, gold, and three-dimensional chromatic patterns made from precious materials expertly crafted.

Children study them in textbooks and art books, Grand Tour pilgrims were enchanted by them and spent hours reproducing them in their notebooks, but the real experience is to wander through the streets, entering them calmly and letting yourself be carried away into a vanished world of beauty and irreplaceable historical intensity.

But the discovery of the city does not end there, as there are many other suggestive and poetic areas that solicit the wonder and curiosity of the visitor: the Dantean area, the tour of the Roman walls, the gardens, the ancient churches with their cylindrical towers, the precious sarcophagi scattered everywhere, the vestiges of Venetian rule, such as the Rocca Brancaleone or the Palazzetto di Piazza del Popolo, and the museums and art galleries, custodians of a past that today, thanks to the liveliness of mosaic art, continues to shine with new light!

So, enjoy your time!
